8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Leadership Primer

This is a foundational course designed to provide participants with an introductory background in organizational behavior theory and fundamental philosophical concepts of leadership. Several definitions of leadership will be explored and discussed together with philosophical leadership thought. The course is meant to further stimulate each participant to seek additional study and experience in this area. Material covered will involve principles and concepts prevalent from the early 1900s to the 21st century.

The Research Primer is a full day program designed to provide participants with an introduction to fundamental research concepts. Faculty will discuss working within research teams, scientific writing, developing a research question, and other facets of research careers. This program is the required prerequisite for the Certificate Program and will stimulate the development of a longitudinal research project idea by participants.

1:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. Assessing Student Learning

This half-day symposium is designed to provide participants with assessment-as-learning strategies to enhance student learning in didactic and clinical settings. Faculty will discuss how to design a course formulated on ability-based educational principles and strategies. This program is the third required module for the Teaching and Learning Certificate Program.
